Some Recent Videos

Dear Sadie,

It was unusually warm on St. Patrick's Day this year so we met some friends at the beach. You didn't want to sit and play in the sand.

You wanted to run all over picking up rocks and chasing sea gulls and drifting towards the surf and paying no attention to your mama chasing you around.

You got so sandy I stripped you down before I put you in your car seat to go home.

You have also become very proficient at eating with a spoon. The trick to not having to throw you in the tub after letting you loose with a spoon and a bowl of yogurt is to catch you before you lose interest in eating and start playing with the food. On several occasions you have declared the yogurt-covered plate a "hat!" and put it on your head. Here is a video of some comparatively tame yogurt eating so I can show off how good you are with decorative Elmo flatware.

In related news, you went from 5 teeth to 10 rather suddenly. A few days ago, you were hollering about something and I looked in your mouth and was astounded to see two big MOLARS in the back on the bottom. I have no idea how long they have been back there. And in the front, two new teeth on the top and one on the bottom have broken through for a full set of 8 front teeth.

And finally, look what you learned how to do today:

You are so pleased with yourself because you love to romp around on the bed. But it means I have to watch you even closer because you careen around like a drunken sailor with no healthy fear of the edge of the bed when you play up there. The bed is only 17 inches high because we want one as low to the floor as possible in case you ever fall off, but I'm sure it would still hurt to land on your head. You later applied your new climbing skills to the living room chairs and sofa. I really can't let you out of my sight.

I love you little monkey.

Elmo Comes to Breakfast

Dear Sadie,

You LOVE Elmo right now. You even have a special name for him: "Ya-Ya". You like to watch him on Sesame Street, and you are always carrying around the Elmo puppet we bought at Target. Although we try not to let you watch very much TV, a couple days a week I turn on the second half of Sesame Street for you to watch "Elmo's World" because you get so excited.

Yesterday you wanted to bring Elmo to playgroup, and I didn't think anything of it until we arrived and Elmo caused a toddler riot. Evidently Elmo is popular with your friends too. So Elmo had to wait in the car with Larry while you played with other, less covet-worthy toys at playgroup.

Here is a video of an ordinary breakfast around here:

When my back was turned that sneaky Ya-Ya finished my bagel.

Love, Mama
